Accessibility Statement

Goblin Heating & Cooling wants every customer to be able to find a service, read what it involves and get in touch, whatever device or assistive technology they use. A furnace failing in January is not the moment to be fighting with a website.

We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We do not claim to have met every criterion. This page says plainly where we are.

These are built into the site rather than bolted on:

• Every image has alt text, and images that are decoration are marked as such so a screen reader passes over them instead of reading them out.
• Text contrast is measured, not estimated. Body text, headings, labels and button text are checked against the background they actually sit on, to at least the 4.5 to 1 ratio WCAG asks for on body copy.
• The whole site works from the keyboard. Every link, button, menu and form field can be reached with Tab and used with Enter or Space, and whatever is focused shows a visible outline.
• A skip link is the first thing focused on every page, so a keyboard or screen reader user can jump straight past the navigation to the content.
• Menus work by tap as well as hover. On a touch screen the first tap opens a menu and the second follows the link, so a submenu is never skipped past.
• Tap targets are at least 44 pixels, so controls can be used accurately on a phone.
• Motion respects your settings. If your device is set to reduce motion, the animations on this site stop, and nothing depends on movement to be understood.
• Headings are in order and describe the section they open, so the page can be navigated by heading.
• Forms have real labels, and if something is wrong the error is described in words next to the field rather than by colour alone.

Every page carries an accessibility toolbar, reached from the icon in the lower corner. It can change text size and spacing, increase contrast, underline links, stop animation and provide a reading guide.

The toolbar is a help, not a substitute for the work above, and it is supplied by a third party (UserWay). If it is not working for you, everything on this site should still be usable without it, and we would like to know if it is not.

We would rather tell you than have you find out:

• The embedded map on our contact page is supplied by Google and we do not control its markup or its keyboard behaviour. Our full address and phone number are given as plain text beside it, and a text directions link is provided, so nothing on that page depends on the map.
• The accessibility toolbar is third-party code and its own behaviour is outside our control.
• Customer reviews are shown as they are supplied by Google, including any spelling or formatting in the original text.

If any part of this site is hard to use, or something here is not working as described, please tell us. We will do our best to put it right, and in the meantime we will give you the information you were after another way.
